Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Mahsa has combined computer engineering and education as a learner, lecturer and leader in Iran and New Zealand. She is passionate about encouraging women into the technology sector and is the founder and director of non-profit group She# which hosts networking events for women studying or working in STEM-related fields. She was named the winner of the Emerging Leader category in the inaugural Westpac Women of Influence awards in 2013, one of ten finalists for 2018 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year, and won the AUT Inaugural Vice-Chancellor Diversity Awards for the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies in 2018.

In addition to her lecturing work (currently at AUT) and her role at Tech Futures Lab, Mahsa is a consultant advisor for several companies in New Zealand, including AIDER and The Story Mint, offering advice on AI strategy.

Mahsa’s doctorate, completed at Massey University, involved the development of a hybrid machine translation system for the English-Persian language pair, merging a statistical translation approach with applied target language-based syntax and semantic techniques to refine the statistical translation output.
